Why Sunrise?
Mornings on the Ganga are calm — the water is still, the light is soft, and the ghats are at their most active with rituals and daily life, before the midday heat and crowds set in.
What to Expect
Most rides launch from Assi Ghat or Dashashwamedh Ghat and drift north past a dozen or more ghats, each with its own character — from cremation ghats to bathing ghats to the ornate riverside temples. A typical ride lasts 45 minutes to an hour.
Booking a Boat
Rowboats can be hired directly at the ghats, and prices are usually negotiable — agree on a rate before you get in. If you'd rather not haggle, our front desk at Rivera Palace can arrange a boat for you in advance at a fair, fixed rate.
What to Bring
A light jacket for the morning chill (even in warmer months, mornings on the water can be cool), a camera, and a bit of cash for the boatman. Life jackets are typically provided — feel free to ask if they aren't offered.
