Varanasi is a city that rewards every season differently. Whether you're chasing cool mornings on the ghats or the drama of the monsoon-swollen Ganga, timing your trip right makes all the difference.
Winter (October – February)
This is peak season, and for good reason. Mornings are crisp and misty, ideal for sunrise boat rides past the ghats. Evenings are pleasant enough to linger at the Ganga Aarti without the summer heat. Expect larger crowds around Dev Deepawali in November.
Summer (March – June)
Hot and dry, with daytime temperatures often crossing 40°C. Fewer tourists means quieter ghats and better hotel rates — a good trade-off if you plan your sightseeing for early morning or after sunset.
Monsoon (July – September)
The river rises dramatically, sometimes submerging the lower ghat steps entirely. It's atmospheric and far less crowded, though some boat routes may be restricted during heavy rain.
Our Recommendation
For first-time visitors, October to February offers the most reliable mix of good weather and full access to the ghats. Whenever you visit, Rivera Palace's rooftop and river-facing rooms give you a front-row seat to the city either way.
